Our Impact

We help western Pennsylvanians breathe better and live healthier.

Breathe PA offers programming in 10 southwestern Pennsylvania counties including – Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Lawrence, Washington, and Westmoreland.

In 2024, Breathe PA expanded its geographic reach in tobacco programming by 45% to northwest, central, and easter Pennsylvania, including Philadelphia County. The unique tobacco cessation program, Smokeless Saturday, received over 1,000 referrals and saw a 172% increase in new referral sources. The program provided education to more than 800 students across 139 school districts in 2024.

In the 2023-2024 school year, 372 students went through our School Asthma Initiative (SAI), which provides asthma education to children with asthma and their families.This reflects a 24% increase from the previous year. The program also trained 30 school nurses and provided nearly 372 asthma kits to those who need additional support. 36 school nurses were provided with back up albuterol to keep in-house in case of emergency.

Throughout 2024, Breathe PA provided financial support to 51 patients to attend Pulmonary Rehabilitation who could otherwise not afford the cost. Additionally, 661 patients and professionals received direct lung health education from our staff. We also provided critical respiratory medication to 168 patients.

In addition, the obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) program conducted 68 one-on-one educational sessions at over 40 senior centers while supporting 31 individuals through its Patient Assistance Program, which provided essential CPAP supplies and education to improve patient comfort and management of sleep apnea. 

Breathe PA provides these and other services through state and local government funding, foundation and estate support, contracts with local nonprofit organizations, and individuals donors in our community.
